Electrical Measuring Equipment

Electrical measuring equipment includes electro-mechanical equipment and systems for measurement, display, recording, processing, and telemetry for electricity metering, as well as meter mounting and test equipment. Sockets safely connect meters to the power flow, allowing for accurate measurements. The platform that the meter uses facilitates the meter's ability to sense voltage and frequency.

Products enable advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), an integrated system of smart meters, communications networks, and data management systems that allows two-way communication between utilities and customers.

NEMA is a leader in smart meters and AMI. It promotes the deployment of smart meters to support national grid modernization. NEMA Members have direct input in industry efforts to advocate for regulatory policies that drive the market for metering products.

  • Develop product Standards, primarily through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI); harmonizes domestic Standards regionally and internationally to ensure that foreign markets remain open to Member products; promotes adoption and harmonization of key standards by ANCE (Mexico's national standards and certification body)
  • Holds the secretariat to ANSI C12 Committee on Electricity Metering
  • Administers the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee 13, Electrical energy measurement and control.
